چکیده
Abstract A three‐dimensional variably saturated flow model was developed for assessing future global water resources and parameterized groundwater pumping. We applied this to an actual watershed verify its validity as Earth System Model. For applicability, the parameterization method multi‐layered pumping verified through comparison with observations MODFLOW results. The proposed in study is applicable even when multiple wells are present within one horizontal computational grid well spans vertical grids. This can be at scale without parameters such radius, which data may difficult obtain. recreated seasonal annual variations observed values. Furthermore, results were comparable those of MODFLOW. Groundwater recharge simulation using a coupled saturated-unsaturated flow model
Abstract The coupled MODFLOW-HYDRUS software package was used to produce a saturated-unsaturated flow model for a Flood Spreading System (FSS) and its associated aquifer. The study aim to improve simulations of near-surface hydrological processes, including temporal and spatial variation in groundwater recharge rates. The coupled model was built with average RMSE=1.1 and 1.3 for calibration ...
متن کاملEfficient Steady-State Solution Techniques for Variably Saturated Groundwater Flow
We consider the simulation of steady-state variably saturated groundwater flow using Richards’ equation (RE). The difficulties associated with solving RE numerically are well known. Most discretization approaches for RE lead to nonlinear systems that are large and difficult to solve. The solution of nonlinear systems for steadystate problems can be particularly challenging, since a good initial...

متن کاملMass Conserving Schemes for Saturated Groundwater Flow
Local mass conservation is of great importance for accurate simulation of fluid flows, especially if the resulting velocity field is to be coupled to a transport equation. Previous work on simulation of saturated groundwater flows have used both mixed finite element methods and discontinuous Galerkin methods to achieve local mass conservation. However, legacy code using a continuous Galerkin fi...
متن کاملPreconditioning Newton- Krylov Methods for Variably Saturated Flow
In this paper, we compare the effectiveness of three preconditioning strategies in simulations of variably saturated flow. Using Richards’ equation as our model, we solve the nonlinear system using a Newton-Krylov method. Since Krylov solvers can stagnate, resulting in slow convergence, we investigate different strategies of preconditioning the Jacobian system. Our work uses a multigrid method ...
